23/2/13....BUMPKINS TAKE THE PRIZE

Well what can I say..Miracles of Life, and more so, jockey lauren Stojokavic, who barely gets a ride in her backwaters of Adelaide, gained the $1M Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, totalling outpointing her more illustrious senior jockeys, who just let her push out on the turn, after being in an awkward 6th on the fence. I must say, I thought she was in a spot of trouble..didn't count on the soft cocks to just let her waltz out. Some very ordinary performances out there.

Congrats to all the country bumpkins..you sure showed the city slickers what it's all about. They came with the best performed horse and got the job done. We layed her and paid the price. Best horse/jock won on the day.

Black Cav's half brother the $40m All Too Hard, again romped in his assignment, the Group 1 Futurity Stakes, and made them all look second rate over this distance. The amazing part was the bookies letting you on...was always going to be pace on, and I rated it a 1.45 conveyance..they bet 2.00 which was extraordinary given it's last dominant win.

We tried an earlier all up with Members Joy/Red Fez into ATH, but Luke Nolen stole the race on the leader, and showed ém how it's done.

Speaking of riding leaders, Glen Boss, must have had a brain fade, going so slowly on the Derby winner FIVEANDAHALFSTAR, and totally playing into the second favs hands, who then just outsprinted the better stayer. Cummings was clearly not amused by this riding blunder. Thank goodness we weren't on that.

We were on numerous placegetters thru the program, but no joy otherwise. Live to last leg in Quaddie with heavily backed Vibrant Rouge, but another jock with no brains had it running last...laid off quick Betfair, as had also backed earlier at 7.00. They seriously are a joke.

Luckily we were coming off a good platform from Wednesday, so damage not bad.

16/2/13...BLACK CAVIAR SUPREME

Well what can you say about the Champ. After coming back from that potentially disastrous trip to England, almost dying in quarantine after being attacked by a swarm of bees, and then to come out today, over the 1000m at Flemington in the Group 1 Lightning stakes, and break the track record, whilst still under a hold. She is an equine freak.

Her win at Royal Ascot was testament to her courage...being treated night and day just to get her to the start and racing against the best with an aching suspensory ligament and not yet healed quads and running on a wet track...Moody has since declared that she was only about 60% right on the day. That's why Nolen wanted to give her the easiest win possible...did go a little too easy though.

Today we again saw the real Black Caviar, totally pain free and what she did to that good field of sprinters was awesome. Trust me, Moment of Change, the runner up, is very very smart and she made him look average...until you look at the time...55.4 secs.. and not let go. Three sub 11.0 sec sectionals are extraordinary.

Our day was one of frustration with half head and nose/pimple defeats, and 4 placegetters..Cosmic Causeway, Ominous quality, Petite Diablese and Under The Sun which are hard to take.

The win of Belfast Boy at 17.0 as our saver to Decircles, and subsequent quinella, certainly helped things on a bit.

Petite Diablesse was one of the runs of the day in running 3rd, beaten about long neck after coming from well back and being shut out a few times was a cert beat at 9.50.
Under the Sun, ran very well too to just go under a pimple, one more stride it wins.

Our lays for the day were spot on... namely, Albrecht, Whittington (odds on) and The New Boy...all 3 heavily backed. Thank you very much.

Away again next week, so limited coverage here.

lucky.

ps..no bets MV as looked favs nite with little value.

13/2/13...MORNINGTON CUP DAY // LIVE

First  a quick review of last Saturdays racing...a good result of 25% profit on turnover mainly through backing the obvious...in Sydney, the highly promising Charge Account who absolutely strolled in and all up, the local champ, and Black Caviar's half brother...All Too Hard, who similarly was never going to lose.

An all up of about 4.20, with a healthy bet, basically covers your day's investments, so excellent result.

What did surprise me was that Robbie Waterhouse rated All Too Hard at 6.50 and thought King Muthasa was a 2.0 chance. I know he rates leaders and on pacers extremely highly in his ratings, and that is a good way of thinking generally, but the King has no acceleration and more of a grinder. I thought if the King had a soft lead, he might gradually up the tempo, and cause a little problem, but was very happy to be on ATH, especially as the second leg of the all up.

We landed the quaddie and did have the King as the only other chance, but 2.0..come on Rob. I notice he didn't give better than 2.30 ATH though...would have liked 6.50 ..lol.

The other good winner was Mulazeem at 5.0, who although we didn't know in the morning re onpace bias, was always going to dictate and be hard to run down. Once the clear bias was on...Adebisi and Budriguez looked very good chances too, as nothing was going to lead them...and the bias got them home.

Mornington Cup today and one of the best days on the provincial circuit, although also very tough punting day. A lovely 30 degrees will greet the large crowd and some very good races on the program. It is a tight track and on pacers generally are to the fore here...and a bit of luck in running/ or good rides needed.

Interests today include...R4...SARI, R7..EIGHT BILLS/ MORANT. R9 MASHKOOR/CATAGIOUS. R10..WHO STOLE MY SOCK.

In the Cup...locals Tuscan Fire and Durnford will be again hard to beat, with the promising Award Season a clear danger.

Laid She's Ellie at 2.90 average...a case of not getting to the lead from the barrier at Mornington with inside speed.

SARI..very stiff to go under a half head after doing all the work and the winner having the suck along behind the leader. Made it worse when Tommy Berry, on the leader, just drifted out on the home turn, to not only present the race, but put Sari out even wider and good job to just go under after looking the winner. Got tempted with the 1.90 the place to offset some of win bet, so did help a bit.

Good mail for Lannister in R6...was 26.0 now into 10.0. Winner far too good, but Lannister good run for 3rd and good place divi for early odds.

Big money for Jolie Blonde in race 7..21.0 to 10.0 lands the plunge..puts pay to my quaddie. starting now to swoop down the outside and avoiding the rail, where the heavy watering and camber of the track has had an effect on the inside it seems.

Not an ideal scenario for Tuscan Fire now with the swoopers...13,14,15 now right in the mix with our h12. Quinella/ Wide trif with nos to win/2nd/wide...

Shouldn't have worried...Bossie summed up the track and gave them a riding lesson, keeping out wide and was NEVER going to lose. From my rating of 4.40 we ended up with 7.0 and got the quinella...$18.40 /trif to boot...$440 in NSW away from local TAB. Excellent result.

i've been saying on this blog for 2 years that Bossie has lengths on any distance rider and he continually leaves ém standing....that was my hope prior the race.

race 9 and another second from our ratings in Mashkor who was just run over in the last 50m after running along at a steady pace and the winner getting to the outside. paid $2.00 place for those EW.

race 10 and really keen on Who Stole My Sock..hopefully the young jockette has been watching proceedings and with luck shd go very well...on at the 6.0 ew already. value in H2 at 13.0 with Red Rain main danger. Jolie Blonde franking the form.

A great ending to the day with our 6.0 selection firming into about 3.80 and getting the chocs. Was a very good ride by Jackie Beriman, only one for the day, and rode it to perfection out wide. Had the race won entering the straight and only wobbled in the last 30 metres or so, to cause minimal interference..but no protest, and there shouldn't have been. Had protest payout guarantee, so no issue, but wanted everyone on to collect. Only realised after a congrats email, that a good daily double with the  Cup made for an even better day.

Was back to the old days of live betting/picks and I hope you got something out of it today.

6/2/13 ...SANDOWN RACES

On a very hot day reaching 37degrees celsius, just short of the 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it just wasn't a day for too many interests.

Nominated the one race...Race 5, and 2 principal conveyances...Chicarito as main bet at 3.50 and saver on Subiasco at 5.0 pre post. Due to media pressure, the latter was backed in to about 4.60, but fav remained solid...so happy at the 5.0.

Pre race, trainer Peter Moody was less than enthusiastic re the fav, and more money came for Subi, with whom we've has an association with a few times after the slow for the fav

Like from a script, the fav drops right out and was found to be lame..thankfully our other saluted.

SUPER BOWL..

JOE " SUPER COOL" FLACCO brings home the bacon, in more ways than one..a double.. winner/MVP, certainly made for a good day.Mind you, the other QB ain't bad..his massive stuff up interception excluded. he's v talented.

The ridiculous farce where 5 mins was played in 80 mins was inexcusable...obviously done ny a 49ers fan, totally halted all the momentum the Ravens had, and I'm sure it was going to be a cake walk otherwise...they were down and out after that 108 yard touchdown mins after half time. Their body language was that of a LOSER...devastated...no coming back.

BREAK TIME..

Flying out tomorrow for a few weeks incorporating business and pleasure, aside from a brief return in the middle, so will be very limited blogging.

Service will continue...

WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION

hope this has nothing to do with the AFL / ASADA investigations into Essendon's possible use of " inappropriate " supplements last year, although must say, that it was Essendon that went to the AFL.

more and more, we seem to be regretting our appointment of  " THE WEAPON " as our fitness guru last year, especially after a record number of soft tissue injuries that occurred in the process of bulking the players......with " supplements"...OMG.

thanks Bomber Thompson...good referral. Stand by for possible consequences !!

JOE FLACCO...SUPERBOWL DESTINY

I'm certainly no expert or even great follower of the NFL, but always take a keen interest in the Superbowl. Rightly or wrongly, I go with the best quarterback for the situation...last year we were on the Giants right from the start of the payoffs because Eli Manning looked the part and had the swagger and got a great collect at the end.

This year..JOE FLACCO, has disposed of Peyton Manning and Tom Brady on his charge to destiny...check out his CV...at 2.65 happy to be onboard and maybe a trade can be done during the game. Centrebet gives first $100 back if leading at 3/4 time and loses. i appreciate this is a simplistic view of what is fundamentally a chess game, but the QB has to carry it out.

In his rookie year, he threw for 2,971 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while starting all 16 regular season games, and became only the eighth rookie quarterback in NFL history to start a playoff game. By leading the Ravens to two road wins in the 2008-09 NFL Playoffs, he became the first rookie quarterback in league history to win two playoff games. In his second season, Flacco improved to 3,613 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, and set single season franchise records for completion percentage (63.1) and quarterback rating (88.9). In his third year in the NFL, Flacco became first all time in Ravens history for passing yards (10,206) and passing touchdowns (60). By starting in two playoff games in 2009, Flacco earned the record for most starts by a quarterback in the first two seasons in NFL history (37).[1] Flacco became the first quarterback to bring his team to the playoffs in his first five seasons, winning a game in each. In 2013 ESPN Analyst Ron Jaworski said that Flacco has the strongest arm in the NFL.[2]

2/2/13...CAULFIELD // BLACK CAVIAR // SALE

Great to see the champ going thru it's paces as it gets closer to resuming. She's certainly looks bigger and Moody has expressed that she's in better nick than the last 2 preps. That's saying something. Looks like the Lightning GR1 at HQ will be the first up go. Can't wait.

We started the weekend with one bet at the Valley last night, which was sent thru just after scr at 8.00am as I really thought it was overs and wanted everyone on at the price.
Min River, who I blackbooked and runs great 2nd up, was 13.0/4.20 each way.

Early in the night it firmed from the 13.0 to 8.00 and then surprisingly got out to 13.0 again at the jump. It ran a mighty race to finish 2nd and you could tell early that Newitt was "on"...place portion never in doubt.

On pace and rails is certainly winning more and more races and pretty much same at Caulfield today where on pace dominated a lot of races.

We had a flying start to the day with wins in our first 3 race bets at Caulfield...left Rosehill alone, as heavy 10 didn't inspire confidence.

Winta Chiller, saver at 14.0 to Nadeem Lass ( backmarker, no hope) was our first winner in Race 1, bypassed Race 2 1.50 shot winner, collected with Royal Haunt at the 5.0 as the only bet and against the 2 favs everyone else was touting. We had covered the days bets after the first 2 winners.

Race 4...layed First Command and backed Avoid Lightning at the 3.40, who was impressive ,seeing FC had an easy lead on the fence. What a great start to the day.

Race 5..layed Tuscan Fire, who ran superb and thought with a 100 to go I was in trouble...thankfully the weight issue told, as I had hoped it would. Our win bets were White Universe, on pace and disappointing and Boom n Zoom, last to turn and given no hope.

Similarly, in Race 6..knock on fav Infinite Energy and went small ew Gail...but they were obviously saving for another day...prob at Flemington...didn't get into it at all.

In short, no more wins but 2nds to Dany the Fox and You Can Dance, really showed we were all around it today.

A great 55% profit on turnover today, 105% last night and 2 lays successful makes for a happy week end.

SALE QUALITY..

We're on Zero Knight at 7.0 and Shock Value at 10.0 and hoping on pacers to be advantaged. New York, who will be the nominal favourite will have to come from well back, but has good weight advantage. However first up last time was so /so and has never won fresh or at 1200m. Similarly, Storm Burst no wins in 5 fresh runs and only 1 win at 7 tries at 1200m.  Both would need red hot pace.

Prior..we have layed Soaked..$150 @ 3.10. Also banking on race pattern of getting back..and always unlucky.

RESULT... Collect on Soaked lay

Sale Quality...If you ever want to watch inept jockeys and the detruction they do..watch this. Sally Wynne will be rubbed out...stay in the bloody kitchen Sal.
